Course Description:

This course prepares students for the AP® Exams, Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism. 

The Mechanics portion will provide instruction in each of the following six content areas assessed on the AP® Exam: Kinematics; Newton’s laws of motion; work, energy, and power; systems of particles and linear momentum; circular motion and rotation; and oscillations and gravitation. 

The Electricity & Magnetism portion will provide instruction in each of the following five content areas assessed on the AP® Exam: Electrostatics; conductors, capacitors, and dielectrics; electric circuits; magnetic fields; and electromagnetism. 

It will use introductory differential and integral calculus throughout the course.

Course Syllabus: 
Unit 1: Kinematics

You’ll begin your study of motion and the quantities associated with the motion of an object: position, velocity, acceleration, and time.

Unit 2: Newton’s Laws of Motion

You’ll investigate Newton’s laws of motion, which describe the relationship among moving objects and the forces acting on them.

Unit 3: Work, Energy, and Power

You’ll learn to define and calculate work, energy, and power and become familiar with the principle of conservation as a foundational model of physics.

Unit 4: Systems of Particles and Linear Momentum

You’ll be introduced to the concepts of center of mass, impulse and momentum, and the conservation of linear momentum.

Unit 5: Rotation

You’ll gain an in-depth comprehension of rotational motion by investigating torque and rotational statics, kinematics, and dynamics.

Unit 6: Oscillations

You’ll explore the forces that cause objects to repeat their motions with a regular pattern.

Unit 7: Gravitation

You’ll investigate gravitational forces and the relationships shared between planets, satellites, and their orbits.


Final Review: ƒ 
  • Complete review of the proceeding major topics/concepts. ƒ 

  • Students work through problems by using published review books and College Board released MC, FRQs, and practice exams. ƒ 

  • Nightly practice problems from released AP Exams, including both multiple- choice and free-response questions. ƒ 

  • A complete practice exam (most recently released public exam) given over several class periods. This exam is graded just like the AP Exam using released scoring rubrics.

Instructional Philosophy  



I usually start by showing the students strategy and working out examples. Then, we both do the problems together. I ask them what they have understood and have a discussion about the concepts. After that, I ask the students to solve the problems independently, which is my ultimate goal.  


Although our course is designed to challenge most students, I am of the opinion that all students can learn this material. I will try my best to make sure the tutee understands the content and is able to apply the knowledge to real world scenarios. It is also the students’ responsibility to recognize what assistance is needed and how I can be of assistance to them. 


A typical 1 hour session includes 40-50 mins of  teaching via onenote presentations and demonstration and live problem solving, 10-15mins of  classroom discussion, calculator or computer demonstration. Each session will be followed by equivalent hours of homework. i.e 1 hour class will have 1 hour homework. 

Assessment Plan:


  • Homework: Daily homework.  


  • Quizzes: Most units, at least one quiz will be given.  


  • Unit Test:  A test will be given at the conclusion of each unit. These will be In class or Take home. 


  • Final exam: The course will have two final exams 1 or 2 weeks apart. These exams are intended to give the students an indication of how well they understand the material.  



Academic Honesty: 
  • The students' video should be ON while taking any in class tests, as well as the screen sharing turned on. 

  • The parents are expected to proctor the ‘Take home’ tests.

  • TI84 Calculator and Desmos Online resources are allowed for most of the exam. 

  • No cheating Please. 


Graphing Calculators:


Use of a graphing calculator is strongly recommended for this class.  If purchasing, any TI – 83 or TI-84 Plus (color edition optional) is appropriate.  Purchase is NOT REQUIRED but encouraged.

  • Graphing calculators and Desmos will be used extensively in this course.

  • We highly recommend that you purchase your own for use in class and on homework. You will need that in college anyways. 

  • Use of TI-83 and TI-84 calculators (all “types”) are recommended, demonstrated and taught.  So if you purchase one… these are the calculators I can help you navigate.


What to bring the session: 

You will need the following items:

  • A notebook ( take notes and solve problems.) 

  • Pencils 

  • Calculator 

  • Previous session notes. (Onenote) 

  • Ipad or a writing device.(Optional) 

Session cancellation/rescheduling policy: 
  • The session must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

  • Full session fees are charged otherwise. 

  • Only Exceptions are Medical emergencies.  

  • Please login on time. If I am in another session, please wait for 5 mins then send me a reminder in the “remind” app. 

  • Be organized and prepared.  Bring all supplies i.e. previous class notes, formula sheet etc needed for class.

  • Finish the homework assigned in the previous class. 


  • It is okay to not know, but it is not okay to not try.


We are in this together and I am here for you!  Ask questions of me and I’ll ask questions of you.  Let’s work as a team, interact, discuss, learn from each other, and have some fun.  Students learn from teachers AND teachers learn from students.  


I don’t want you to ever be afraid of asking questions or of making mistakes. All the sessions are 1:1 so it’s just you and me. Be honest and frank.  You won’t know how much you know until you know how much you don’t know.
